Handmade Mother’s Day Card

My sister knew how to makes these flowers using ribbon, so we sat down and made a load of them before attaching to a paint-splattered card. I love how three dimensional the bouquet is. Anyway, my mum liked it a lot.

Handmade circuit board earrings.

These are made from actual recycled circuit boards, definitely a more unusual piece of jewellery, but I think they’re quite striking. Conversation starter anyone?

Sunsets.

I’ve always loved looking at sunsets and the stars, but capturing them is another matter. So until I manage to photograph a starry night, here are some pretty sunsets. The bottom two were taken on my phone so aren’t that good quality, but I love the colours and how the sun lights up the clouds.

Handmade African beaded bracelet.

I’ve always wanted to make one of these beaded bracelets, and finally figured out you need a bead loom to make one. So I got one for Christmas and sat down and made one on Christmas Day (two months ago today in fact). Once you’ve set up the loom and decided on your bead pattern and colours, they’re surprisingly simple to make.

New french.

For a twist on the classic French manicure, try black tips with a neutral colour. I also added a little black bow on my two smallest fingers for the final touch.

I love all the little bubbles created within the ice, and couldn’t resist stopping to take photos.

Rings.

This is a ring I bought from a market stall in Italy last summer, and I’ve worn it so much - I love its copper colour and eye catching design. So I’ve started trying to make my own rings, beginning with simple styles just made out of wire.

Handmade golden rose bracelet.

I made this over half term, after having wanted to use these beads for ages. I’ve seen quite a few bracelets in this style around, so I thought I’d give it a go myself. It’s adjustable too, and I think the two shimmery pink beads at the ends finish the bracelet off nicely.

I’m watching you.

This photo is a really old one I took of myself, but I still like it.

Goodbye 2011, hello 2012.

I could have done a nice photoset with highlights from my year but I don’t really have the time - in the middle of a load of art coursework. Story of my life.

Anyway, I think it’s been a pretty good year - visited Italy on a school music tour, sailing around Greece with my family, and Devon with my girls, got a lovely set of GCSE results (just about worth all the exams and hard work I put in to them), prom, started sixth form, realised who my real friends are, went to my first ever concert - The Script, had an amazing night seeing Charlie Simpson live, passed my Intermediate ballet exam, did Zumba, turned 17 and started learning how to drive.

And next year? Well I don’t see a lot of point in New Year’s resolutions - you can make resolutions any time of the year to be honest. There are still things I want to achieve though: pass my driving test, have a great 18th, do well in my exams, do some engineering work experience, try pilates/yoga, get a good tan in the summer, find time to relax and make things, and build a really good snowman (weather permitting).

See you next year!
